Matthew Scott, 17, is a lifelong resident of the North Texas area and is a student of Dallas Symphony Orchestra pianist, Gabriel Sanchez. He has studied with Dr. Carol Leone in the Young Artist Program at the Meadows School of the Arts, SMU Dallas. He began formal piano training at age four with Christina Kim and further developed his skills under the instruction of Konstantyn Travinskyy and through master classes with Vladimir Viardo, Dang Thai Son, Stanislav Ioudenitch, Joyce Yang, Anton Nel, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Gabriel Kwok, Mikhail Voskresensky, and other distinguished musicians. He has received improvisation and jazz training from Grammy Award Winner Scott Tixier, and his composition skills have developed under the instruction of Dr. Jon Cziner.

Notable awards include: 1st Prize, 2018 Steinway Junior Piano; Grand Prize, 2019 Carmel Klavier International Piano; 1st Place, 2021 Dallas Piano Solo; Grand Prize, 2022 Piano League International; Gold Medal, 2022 Seattle International Piano; Winner, 2023 State of Texas MTNA; Winner, 2024 South Central Division MTNA; Finalist, 2024 National MTNA; 2024 National YoungArts Winner, Classical Piano; 1st Place, 2024 Vernell Gregg Young Artist Concerto; 2024, Texas Commission on the Arts Young Master Grant Recipient; Grand Prize, 2025 Vernell Gregg Young Artist Concerto.

Matthew made his orchestral debut with the Fort Worth Symphony in June 2021, conducted by Miguel Harth Bedoya. He soloed with the Las Colinas Symphony in June 2022 in the Van Cliburn Concert Hall under the baton of Geoffrey Simon. He performed Beethoven’s 3rd Concerto with the Lewisville Lake Symphony in 2025, conducted by Maestro Adron Ming.

To further develop his musicianship, Matthew has attended the PianoTexas and Oberlin Piano festivals since 2020. He was featured on NPR’s From the Top program in 2024. Additionally, Matthew is recognized as a Young Steinway Artist.

With a dedication to collaboration, Matthew has been a member of the Greater Dallas Youth Orchestra, GDYO Wind Symphony, Chamber Music International Youth Ambassadors, is a founding member of Youth Jazz International, and has developed music sets with the Worship Academy at his church. He regularly accompanies other instruments (piano, violin, cello, clarinet) in competitions and recitals.

In his free time, Matthew shares piano music at senior centers across Texas and uses his talents to help memory care patients restore musical memories. He also likes exploring the outdoors, studying geography, and completing all varieties of puzzles.

Matthew will attend Southern Methodist University in the Fall of 2025 to study Piano Performance.
